Pirey, by Petre M. Andreevski, is one of the most celebrated novels of modern Macedonian Literature. Set during the Balkan Wars, the First World War and the years soon after, the story follows the major politicsl shifts in the Balkans at the end of the Ottoman Empire and their catastrophic impact on a Macedonian village and a marred couple, Ion and Velika.

     This novel was translated in English by Mirjana Simjanovska and Will Firth. Mirjana is a profesor of English and German language at the Flinders Christian College in Victoria, Australia. She is a ski instructor and a member of AcroMacedonia. mirjana_ski@yahoo.com.au
